This session introduces that "Posture" is the magic ingredient in accent work—no matter how accurate the individual sounds are, you will never really sound like a native speaker of a target accent if you never click into the posture. If you can find the posture of an accent, that will do a great deal of your work for you. Methodology will also include character development, studying the main vowel and consonant positions, and intonation patterns of a key target accent. Depending on the desires of the participants, explorations could include: New York dialects such as Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens; Southern dialects such as Appalachian, Louisiana, and Pre-civil war Antebellum, standard Russian, and/or a standard French accent.
